(Some mods only finish setting themselves up AFTER the save they get installed to is RELOADED, so they only finished setting themselves up the following save.XPMSE for example, at least at the time.)Įverything when well right up until I got to around 230-240 ESPs installed and then I started getting CTDs on save load (or reload), Initially the problem started on reload after some mods finished setting themselves up after the initial save was loaded, and removing those mods and restarting with a new run fixed the issues.

Each group was associated with a particular NMM profile and a base save for that group, which I tested after every mod installation, or the installation of a few mods: load a few mods, load the last save, wait until mod does its thing in the save (MCM menu setup, etc,) RESAVE, reload that save again, resave and reload.

So, after re-setting up all the tools at a modern Skyrim modder's disposal–LOOT, ENBoost, SKSE memory patch (tried at 512/256 and 768/256), TES5Edit (mostly for masters cleaning), SpINI, Wrye Bash, Memory Blocks Log and Skyrim Performance Monitor (and using the new NMM's profile feature)–I started to reinstall Skyrim fresh and started reinstalling mods in groups, based on function, priority and the mod description's requirements. I started an ambitious rebuild of my Skyrim loadout after installing Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) 6.0 back in late 2015 and having it completely trash my installation at the time. Skip to last three paragraphs to avoid getting bored to tears. WARNING: long, long winded analysis ahead. It might be of some benefit to someone in the future. Sorry to necro this thread, but since I have been experiencing exactly the same thing and trying to find a miracle solution I thought I'd chime in to see if you had ever found a solution and to share my own experienced. So, I figured I've exhausted all the other ideas and fixes I've thought up and heard elsewhere - it seems to be a semi-common issue, though I havn't seen any kind of difinitive fix for it - maybe one of you can help - I'd appreciate it. And I have used LOOT (and the newest version to boot) to sort my load order. So it seems I have a non-specific mod-based issue that occurs only at the ass-end of the loading process when loading a save (but not when starting a new game - dunno what differences there are in the game between starting a new game and loading a save, just in the load process).Īnd everything is up to date, it is a legit version of Skyrim (thus the Steam forums), my mods are up to date, Tes5edit shows no missing master files, and additionally Wrye Bash shows all plugins as green, and my saves as purple (meaning no errors it can see in either the plugins or the save files). And I've read up on ENB specific issues and tested through that with no luck there either. I worked through with a friend to test for memory issues using some tools (and good old fashioned stressing Skyrim a bit by running about crazy) and everything seemed fine memory-wise as well - I should note I am using the memory patch, the SKSE.ini file to assist with initial memory, and ENBoost (not a ENB though - just using it for the extra memory). I tried disabling my mods systematically in small groups until I could load a save, and work back through that last group - but during that testing, the issue reappeared with the initial batch I thought caused it disabled - which tells me it isn't a specific mod causing it. I've used save game cleaners to test if I have some kind of orphaned script or other script-related issue and all my test saves (and I've been going through a good dozen or two testing various things I read and see) reported squeeky clean. So I start testing, and find that loading any save, at all, causes a CTD - I can start with the alternate start, wait a minute for the initial setups to get done, save, load the save - where I'm standing exactly, same everything - boom, CTD on loading.
Welp, got all my mods installed, did all the prep-work, everything seemed great, even went through the vanilla intro (I use alternate start, but originally wanted to stress-test a bit to see how stable I'd be with all my mods in) - everything was perfectly fine, got out of the cave at the end of the intro, had to run to class, saved - and when I came back after, loading my save caused a CTD at the end of the load screen.
